کتاب مردم نگاری سفر یک متن مستند 792 صفحه ای به قلم دکتر نعمت الله فاضلی است که حاصل مشاهدات پنج ساله او ازانگلستان برای گذراندن دوره دکتری در مدرسه مطالعات شرق و افریقا ی (SOAS) دانشگاه لندن و همچنین دیدار وی از امریکا و ایتالیا است. کتاب (مستند) مردم نگاری سفر در بیست فصل (اپیزود) تنظیم شده است و در آن راوی به زبان اول شخص مشاهدات خود را به ثبت رسانده است. نویسنده در همه صحنه ها حضور فعال دارد بطوری که مشاهدات در جامعه مورد نظر به شکل ریز و جزء به جزء نوشته شده و در کنار آن گاهی با پیشینه های ذهنی (فلاش بک) از روستای محل تولد خود (مصلح آباد فراهان) چاشنی های طنزی به آن افزوده است. نویسنده با ذهن فعال خود تنها به مشاهده اکتفا ننموده و در کنار ارائه توضیحات شرحی از وضعیت موجود پیشینه و روند آتی برخی مکان ها آیین ها و دوران ها در جامعه مورد مشاهده (لندن) را ارائه و با طرح برخی سؤالات مخاطب خود را به چالش می کشاند از این رو مطالب کتاب برانگیزاننده و شورانگیز است. بازیگر اصلی این مستند (نگارشی) دکتر نعمت الله فاضلی است و در کنار او در برخی صحنه ها همسرش نمایان می شود و کمتر از او در صحنه های کوتاه تری پسرشان فرهنگ در حاشیه بعضی اپیزودها حضور پیدا می کند. در دو سه اپیزود هم سه تن از دوستان نویسنده در صحنه حضور دارند. اما روند اپیزودیک این مستند نگارشی با روایت خود نویسنده دریک مقدمه و بیست فصل جان می گیرند: مقدمه : مقدمه با کلمه قصاری از جین جکسون مزین شده است: انسان شناس کسی است که در پایان هر امری اقدام به نوشتن و ثبت آن می کند . یعنی کاری که کمتر دانشجویان ایرانی در خلال درسهای دانشگاهی آن را یاد می گیرند و به آن عمل می کنند. از این روست که وقتی دانشجویان ورودی یک دورة کارشناسی ارشد را تا پایان دورة تحصیل دنبال می کنی تعداد کمی همچنان در مشاغلی متناسب با رشتة تحصیل خود مشغول می شوند و در رزومه خود کمتر مطالبی آکادمیک و علمی در سوابق و نوشته های خود دارند. این شاید از سیستم موجود نشأت می گیرد. سیستمی که نگارندة این سطور نیز مشمول آن است و از 24 نفر پذیرفته شده سال 68 رشته مردم شناسی دانشگاه آزاد تنها به جرأت 5 نفر در مشاغلی مرتبط یا نیمه مرتبط با مردم شناسی هستند. اما فاضلی یکی از کسانی است که نوشتن را کشف کرده و نوشتن ابزاری شده است برای ثبت تجربیات و مشاهداتش pfg و همچنین راهی برای شناخت لایه های درونی فرهنگ و جامعه بریتانیا که در آن اقامت موقت گزیده بود. از این روست که از همان ابتدای ورود نوشتن را آغاز می کند. نوشتن مشاهدات روزمره تجربیاتش را مضاعف کرده و در کنار این نوشتن در باره غرب برایش ارزش حرفه ای هم داشته است. یعنی تلاش برای شناخت فرهنگ و جامعه بریتانیا از راه ثبت و ضبط تجربیات روزمره که نوعی ممارست حرفه ای در مردم نگاری و انسان شناسی است. زیرا که دانش انسان شناسی به تعبیر کلیفورد گیرتز (Clifford Geertz) چیزی نیست جز شرح دقیق و توصیف قویم و غنی thick description از فرهنگ که محصول تجربه زیسته live experience و مشاهدات مردم نگار از یک جامعه یا گروه خاص است. نویسنده در انتهای مقدمه در باره کتاب خویش می نویسد: این مجموعه یادداشت ها مشاهدات و متونی که در قالب کتاب حاضر در اختیار دارید توصیف ها و تحلیل های نگارنده از تجربه زیسته ام طی سال های زندگی ام در ایران و دیگر کشور های جهان است و می توان این کتاب را نوعی خود زندگینامه هم دانست...از این رو آنچه در اختیار شما قرار دارد بیش از آنکه ارزش اطلاع رسانی و آگاهی بخشی از جهان داشته باشد بیش تر تلاش نگارنده برای انتقال تجربه خاص از زندگی در جهان و تحلیل هایم است. در این تجربه ها تحلیل ها و توصیف ها بسیار محتمل است چیز های مهمی را مغفول نهاده یا چیزهایی را خطا فهمیده باشم. اما هرچه هست این نوشته ها تلاش برای زیستن فعال نه منفعل در مواجهه با هستی است (ص 38). اپیزود اول : از تهران تا لندن عنوان فصل اول کتاب و آغاز سفر است که از ساختمان سبز معاونت دانشجویی وزارت فرهنگ و آموزش عالی با کسب ادامه تحصیل بورس برای اخذ دکتری و اولین سفرمؤلف که فراسوی مرزهای جغرافیایی و فرهنگی است کلید می خورد. از سال 1814 که اولین کاروان معرفت ایرانی برای تحصیل علوم جدید عازم انگلستان شد تا امروز که سال های زیادی می گذرد هنوز هم اخذ دکتری و سفر به خارج رخداد منحصر به فرد و کم نظیری در زندگی هر شهروند ایرانی است زیرا تحصیل در خارج آموزش بین فرهنگی Cross cultural education است که علاوه بر کسب دانش تخصصی روزآمد و مهارت های علمی و دانشگاهی می تواند به تجربه و دانش فرهنگی تحول آفرین در زندگی و شخصیت دانشجو و تحولات بزرگ اجتماعی و سیاسی در جامعه منجر شود (ص 45). مقدمات سفر با انجام آداب آن که شامل خداحافظی از مادر و هم ولایتی های مصلح آباد فراهان و حلالیت طلبی از آنان است همراه با فلاش بک هایی از دوران کودکی انجام می گیرد و با پرواز از مهرآباد و فرود در هیترو و اقامت اولیه در کانون توحید و سپس اینترنشنال هال و کنجکاویهای اولیه یک مسافر فرنگ رفته ادامه می یابد. اپیزود دوم : بریتانیای پسامدرن در این فصل چهره ای که در سیما و ساختار فرهنگی جامعه بریتانیا دیده می شود و با بریتانیای سه چهار دهة گذشته تفاوت های اساسی دارد توصیف شده است. این تحولات که از نیمة دوم قرن بیستم خود را در جامعه بریتانیا نشان داده به عنوان جامعة ما بعد صنعتی post-society industrial از آن یاد می شود امروزه به واژه متداول پسامدرنیسم تبدیل شده است اصطلاحی که ابتدا در معماری pfg باب شد و بعد لیوتار Lyotard (1985) آن را برای توصیف تمام تحولات اجتماعی به کار برده است. از دیدگاه لیوتار پسامدرنیسم در عرصة اجتماع دارای چند ویژگی بارز است. اولین ویژگی آن پایان یافتن فراروایت هاست به این معنا که دیگر در عرصه فره
