SU Law Professor wins National Teaching Excellence Award | News
Stellenbosch University (SU) takes pride in a lecturer from the Faculty of Law who has been selected to receive the prestigious National Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award from Heltasa (Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association)/CHE (Council for Higher Education).
Professor Geo Quinot is one of five candidates to be selected, out of a total of 38 candidates, for the Heltasa-CHE National Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award. The selection committee noted in their letter that they were particularly impressed by Prof Quinot s leadership of and engagement in a transformative legal education approach through the use of the new legal method or reasoning mode. The committee noted the inspiring way in which Prof Quinot paid attention to the appropriate use of assessment in law programmes and the focus on peer learning. They were also impressed by the evidence of judicious use of technology that is aligned to Prof Quinot s teaching philosophy and pedagogical practices which has influenced the renewal of legal teaching practices. Finally, they commented on the fact that specific attention is paid to the educational needs of students southern eagle distributing where emphasis is placed on the incorporation of student writing skills into modules. Prof Quinot will receive his award on 29 November 2012 at the annual Heltasa Conference hosted at SU.
